The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District is seeking a qualified and motivated Receptionist to join our team. This position serves as the District’s first point of contact with the public, providing courteous, accurate, and timely assistance in person, by phone, and by email. The Receptionist also supports staff with routine administrative and clerical duties that contribute to the District’s mission to protect public health. Our District office is located in Roseville, California, and serves all of Placer County.

Job Description
Receptionist
Examples of Essential Duties
- Answer and route incoming phone calls promptly and courteously; provide general information and refer callers to appropriate staff.
- Monitor and respond to general District email accounts.
- Greet and assist visitors and walk-in members of the public.
- Receive, log, and process public service requests, mail, and deliveries using District systems.
- Perform general clerical duties such as filing, scanning, copying, and data entry.
- Maintain the reception area in a clean and professional manner.
- Assist with preparation and distribution of correspondence, forms, and materials.
- Provide administrative support for special projects as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these would be:
- Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.
- Experience: One year of clerical, reception, or customer service experience preferred. Experience working in a public agency or other customer-facing role is desirable.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Standard office practices and procedures.
- Customer service techniques, telephone etiquette, and professional communication.
- Basic computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and database systems.
Ability to:
- Communicate clearly and courteously in person, on the phone, and in writing.
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Handle confidential information with discretion.
- Learn and use District software for service requests and records.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff.
- Manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
Work is normally performed in an office environment with frequent sitting at a computer workstation.
- Mobility: Frequent sitting, occasional bending, twisting, or squatting.
- Lifting: Frequently up to 10 lbs; occasionally up to 30 lbs.
- Vision: Constant use of vision including reading printed and digital materials.
- Dexterity: Frequent repetitive motion including writing, grasping, and reaching.
- Hearing/Talking: Frequent communication in person and on the phone.
- Emotional/Psychological: Frequent decision-making and public contact; occasional working alone.
Examination and Selection Process
Applicants will be screened based on a qualifying evaluation of training, education, and experience as described in their application materials. The most qualified candidates will be invited for interviews to assess their knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the position. Final selection will be based on overall assessment of qualifications and interview performance.
All persons selected for appointment must pass a medical examination administered by the District’s physician. The District maintains a drug- and alcohol-free workplace.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary for the Receptionist classification is $23.57 (Step A). The District offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
