Placer County and the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District  Urge Residents to Protect Themselves from Mosquito Bites

ROSEVILLE, Calif., September 10, 2021 – Placer County’s interim health officer, along with the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District, encourage residents to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, after a human case of West Nile virus was reported in Roseville today.

“We are experiencing an average West Nile virus season in the county with 62 positive mosquito samples out of 1,659 samples tested,” said Joel Buettner, General Manager. “Mosquito season may be coming to a close with cooler weather on the horizon, but we recommend residents stay vigilant by protecting themselves from bites by using repellents with EPA-registered ingredients.”

Across the state, human cases of West Nile virus have been reported but this is the first human case to be reported in Placer County this season. The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District has continued aerial and ground-based mosquito treatments in and around Roseville, Lincoln and western Placer agricultural areas throughout the season. Residents are encouraged to report all dead birds on westnile.ca.gov or by calling 1-877-WNV-BIRD (968-2473).
